Koyudo, established in 1979, is a manufacturing company of brushes for calligraphy in Kumano, Hiroshima prefecture in Japan. Brushes have been manufactured in Kumano area since around 1830 during the Edo period. The brand started selling makeup brushes in 2005. Using the traditional technique especially in Kumano where the masterly techniques is gathered, the craftsmen produces them by hands while paying great attention to the details where machines can not match craftsmen's skills.

Koyudo has started selling makeup brushes since 2005. The brushes are made with traditional technique used in making Japanese calligraphy brushes. Makeup brushes are requested for its tips narrow in order not to hurt skin. In this aspect, their makeup brushes are so dense that the touch is soft and smooth. They make new products by applying unique techniques from tradition to make calligraphy brushes, and that's why they can make high quality makeup brushes different from others. The brushes are made by hands of artisans in the Kumano area and never made by machines.
